Talon Esports’ TI12 run was cut short during an exciting playoff series against BetBoom Team on Oct. 23. Even though the team was knocked out, one of their players, Chan “Oli” Chon Kien, walked out with an extremely rare reward, a Treasure of the Crimson Witness.

The exact moment when a Treasure of the Crimson Witness was dropped for Oli was caught during the live broadcast of The International. Although blurry, the image shows the monitor next to Nuengnara “23savage” Teeramahanon, where Oli was sitting, with the Crimson Witness reward pop-up screen.

Talon Esports might have lost, but their position five player got a rare item on his way out. But how difficult is it to acquire this item, you ask?

First of all, this extremely rare treasure item drops only during The International and under special circumstances. The player, or viewer, has to be physically present for the TI event itself and they need to have their TI badge linked to their Steam account. Once this is done, the viewer or player involved in the match needs to witness a First Blood taking place.

Only when these conditions are met do you have a minor chance of acquiring a Treasure of the Crimson Witness. With such low odds, the prices of these treasures have only continued to go up over time on the Steam Marketplace, with older treasure items being valued a lot more.

Will we see more Treasures of the Crimson Witness be dropped? Tune in to the main stage of TI12, live from the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle on Oct. 27 to find out.
