The Green Wall has fallen. After winning CWL Las Vegas 2018 in December, OpTic Gaming were identified as an early favorite this year in the Call of Duty World League. Since then, OpTic have experienced some challenges from Brandon “Dashy” Otell not playing in the Pro League because of travel issues to the team’s 1-2 record in pool play to start CWL Fort Worth 2019. After being eliminated by Gen.G in round two of the losers bracket, it seems like OpTic are back to square one in the CWL.

Against Gen.G, OpTic Gaming started slowly in the Hardpoint, ultimately losing the map 250-183. Despite Gen.G entering CWL Fort Worth 2019 undefeated in Search and Destroy, OpTic kept it close and came out on top 6-4. And although OpTic built a 2-0 lead in Control for the third map, Gen.G came back with a reverse sweep to take a 2-1 series lead.

With their tournament life on the line, OpTic rebounded in the second Hardpoint, winning 250-173 to force a game five. Both team’s future at CWL Fort Worth hung in the balance during the final map. Despite losing in Search and Destroy earlier in the series, Gen.G fought back with vengeance. Leading OpTic in the map 5-4, Gen.G forced a fight over a bomb site, which led to the Green Wall’s collapse.

Having now been eliminated from CWL Fort Worth 2019, OpTic are headed home with a top 12 placing this weekend. Across the board, CWL Fort Worth 2019 hasn’t been kind to favored teams. Earlier in the tournament, eUnited finished in last place after being eliminated by 100 Thieves.

While OpTic had moments of excellence, the team composure looked much different than it did three months ago in Las Vegas. Perhaps the key piece was Dashy missing play in the Pro League or Gen.G’s dominance at Search and Destroy. But either way, OpTic have been denied the opportunity of picking up back-to-back championship titles in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
