After suffering four-straight losses, FlyQuest beautifully rebounded with a perfect week eight to secure their playoff spot—and they did it against the LCS’ best team.

FlyQuest handed Team Liquid their second loss of the 2019 LCS Spring Split in a match that looked lost after a fumbled early game.

Liquid jungler Jake “Xmithie” Puchero had Lucas “Santorin” Larsen’s number for most of the early game as Rek’Sai. After solo-killing Santorin’s Skarner during his attempt at an invade, Xmithie gained an early edge, which he spread to the rest of Liquid. This edge flourished into a major lead for the first-place team, who looked poised to find their 15th win.

But FlyQuest found their way back into the game through a Baron fight, with FlyQuest AD carry Jason “WildTurtle” Tran leaping out of the pit as Ezreal to kill Xmithie, halting Liquid’s contest.

“Feels pretty good,” WildTurtle said in the post-game interview explaining his feelings after the match. “It feels just like all our practice paid off. We worked extremely hard to get to where we were now after [going] 0-4, so I’m extremely proud of all my teammates, coaching staff, and everyone of FlyQuest.”

Although they weren’t able to close out the game with that initial Baron, FlyQuest sealed the deal minutes later with a second Baron fight, which deleted Liquid off the map.

Now eight weeks into the Spring Split and qualified for playoffs, WildTurtle doesn’t yet know how far FlyQuest can go. “I’m still unsure of our team’s potential,” WildTurtle said. “I’m just down to play every game and have fun with the rest of the split.”

FlyQuest will return to Summoner’s Rift on March 23 when they face Cloud9.
