Over 800,000 players were duking it out in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds early Saturday morning, making it just the third game all time to reach that milestone on Steam’s list of concurrent players.
This news comes less than two weeks after PUBG hit 600,000 concurrent players. There was a difference of just less than 30,000 players between PUBG and Dota 2, the top game at the time.
With eight million copies sold in just under five months of early access, it’s no surprise to see this many people playing PUBG. But the numbers continue to impress nevertheless with each update from Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene and the team at Bluehole Studio.
PUBG is now just 40,000 concurrent players away from second place on the all-time list, according to SteamCharts. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive hit 850,485 players in April 2016, and Dota 2 holds the all-time record with 1,291,328 players back in March 2016.
Considering the growth rate of PUBG’s concurrent players, it seems likely that the game will surpass CS:GO for second place some time in the coming days and weeks.
PUBG just recently held its first esports LAN event at gamescom this week, and Twitch viewership was strong. There’s no telling when this game’s momentum will slow down.
