While Last Epoch can be played offline, multiplayer provides more opportunities for adventure and the ability to squad up with friends—though it does mean you’re at the mercy of the servers. Fortunately for players, if the servers are acting up, there are ways to check what’s going on.

Server downtime can happen at any time, especially for a new release or an update during the initial launch. The developers announced on June 8 that the game’s servers should be shut down for 24 hours before the patch launches on all the devices. Therefore, it’s a good idea to know exactly how to check the server status so you can join the servers immediately when the update drops in the game. But if players want to still start their journey, there is an option to play through the ARPG offline.

If you’re facing the “Online play unavailable error,” don’t worry. The developers are working on the issues and have informed fans on X (formerly Twitter) that the issues were due to “initial burst load causing some launch day turbulence,” so they’re working to resolve the problem.

Using an online character on an offline server and vice versa isn’t possible, however. If you start your journey offline, it won’t be possible to use that character later on if you decide to switch to an online server.

The best way to check the status of the Last Epoch servers is by using social media, either by checking the official X account or by joining the official Discord channel to receive the latest updates. You can also check the Last Epoch forums, where planned maintenance is announced in advance.

Planned maintenance times are usually announced by the developers using these platforms. If the servers go down due to issues, these are likely to be the first places where the problems will be discussed—so you’ll quickly be able to see the status of the server.

If you encounter issues with the server, these platforms are the best way to report any problems for support. If you’re encountering issues but no problems are being reported by the community, it’s possibly a problem on your end.
