Getting and opening Focus Activity winner packages in Destiny 2 is one of the ways to progress the trendiest quest in Guardian Games 2024—and with some luck, it may be the easiest.
Focus Activity winner packages are one of three ways to progress the Drop In quest, which unlocks a permanent Skimmer for your collection. Players can also score on the top 10 percent of guardians in the Competitive playlist or grab 1,200 Medallion Score, but it’s good to have backup plans for the event’s most coveted reward. We unlocked our Skimmer by getting winner packages, which took us little effort and a class betrayal.
Here’s what you need to know about Focus Activity winner packages in Destiny 2‘s Guardian Games, including what they are and what you need to do to get them.
What are Focus Activity winner packages in Destiny 2?
Focus Activity winner packages are related to Focus Activities, an experiment that has come and gone with different shapes throughout Destiny 2‘s class-on-class competition. In Guardian Games 2024, Focus Activities will rotate every few hours, toggling between the event’s main playlists: Training, Competitive, Supremacy, and Gambit.
While a Focus Activity is active, it will appear with a white indicator below it on the Tower map, and you can check the unique icon above the four playlists to check the standings. In the example below, we’re representing the Hunter class in the Competitive playlist, which has a white icon near it.
All classes and players will get rewards for players, but whichever class “wins” that focus activity (by having a higher score) will earn a winner package for that slot. You commit to a class in your first run for that activity, and you can reap your rewards once the focus time runs out. The victory goes to the class with the biggest participation, which the game displays before you dive into the activity.
Your first participation will pledge you to a class for that activity. You can play it at will with any class, though you receive the reward for the first one you have used. If your class wins, you’ll receive the coveted winner’s package. Hunters have been getting the upper hand almost without fail so far in our experience, so we ditched our robes and put on a cloak for this event.
How to get and open Focus Activity winner packages in Destiny 2‘s Guardian Games
To obtain Focus Activity winner packages, all you need to do is play the winning class for that Focus Activity. If Hunters are winning Supremacy, for instance, anyone who pledged allegiance to the Hunters will receive the reward once the Focus Activity ends. This package will appear in your Destiny 2 inventory, so make sure you have free space. For us, it showed up as “Focus Champions Package” instead of the name used in the quest.
Once your class has won a Focus Activity and you’ve obtained your winner’s package, empty your Medallion Case before opening. It will fill up your Medallion Case with all Medallion types except Diamond ones, giving you enough to score a few drops of event weapons like Hullabaloo. They will count toward your Drop In quest, which progressed to one out of three after we opened this.
Best class to get Focus Activity winner packages
Destiny 2 doesn’t restrict which class you need to play to win a Focus Activity. You can play any given activity using any class, but the only restriction is that the first class you played will lock you into that class for that activity period. That said, playing Hunter was almost guaranteed to score you a Focus Activity winner package early into the event.
Hunters had such an edge over the competition that Bungie tweaked the class scoring formula ahead of the event’s first weekend as an attempt to offset their advantage. “[Hunters] started out with high numbers and Guardians are changing from their main class to join the Hunter cause to get that sweet loot,” Bungie explained, but the developer added a scaling feature that may change the needle for other classes.
Hunters have still been generally demolishing the competition in our servers, though, so make sure to pledge allegiance to the Hunters if you’re looking to get more Focus Activity winner packages. This was the quickest way we found to obtain a permanent version of the Allstar Vector Skimmer, even if we did have to betray our class to do this. (Sorry, Warlocks, but I regret nothing.)
Why am I not getting Focus Activity winner packages?
Your Focus Activity winner package may take a bit to arrive, even if you played the winning class. While participation bonuses are nearly instant, the biggest prize may take some time to come through. In our experience, giving it a few minutes and fully restarting Destiny 2 is usually enough to get your winner’s package. Just changing characters isn’t always enough, but it should appear in your inventory after some time.
Make sure you also have your Guardian Games class item equipped when you do the activity and when you log in after. If you’re sticking around until the activity ends, your Focus Activity winner packages should appear within 10 or so minutes (in our experience), though it may take a bit if you’re not in-game.
Why can’t I open Focus Activity winner packages?
If you played the winning class, got your Focus Activity winner package, and still can’t open it, you should check your Medallion Case. The game doesn’t let you open your Focus Activity winner packages if you still have Medallions on you, at least non-Diamond ones. Since opening a Focus Activity winner’s package almost fills up your Medallion Case, Bungie may have coded this to prevent your inventory from overflowing and breaking anything with the game. If you deposit all your Medallions and have a free case, however, the Open prompt should appear, and you can reap your rewards.
