It’s been over a decade since the original Dragon’s Dogma was released, and the hype for the sequel, Dragon’s Dogma 2, is ever-growing. While it can be played on various platforms, one platform players hope Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be playable on is the Steam Deck.

At the time of writing Dragon’s Dogma 2 is playable on the Steam Deck but many have reported the game struggles to run properly even on “low” settings.

The Dragon’s Dogma 2 Steam page lists partial controller support for Xbox and DualShock Controllers, and a notice that reads “The developers recommend playing this game with a controller” is visible. For those who run the game on Steam Deck, they’ve certainly managed to get the game running. However, the performance of the game on the Steam Deck has many players disappointed.

However, it was evident quickly that performance on the device wouldn’t be amazing. A March 22 Reddit thread revealed several users who had experienced numerous crashes and glitches even on low settings, with the game struggling to reach the 30 FPS mark.

I originally downloaded the character creator tool just to see how it functions and if there are any issues. From what I experienced, the character creator tool ran very well. There were instances where I did notice the keyboard shortcuts for specific actions. However, I’d get the controller shortcuts when I moved a joystick, which isn’t a major issue at least for me. While it wasn’t the complete game, it functions well and bodes well for the full game.

In terms of the minimum spec requirements, the Steam Deck does fall short when it comes to the CPU which is where you really feel the performance drop. At the moment, if you must play Dragon’s Dogma 2 on the Steam Deck, I recommend dropping settings as low as they can go until the performance issues are addressed. Here’s hoping the game can be improved with a patch or two.
