Streamer and content creator Norme has received a ban from Twitch and other platforms after attempting to stay awake for 12 days straight. After pulling 240 hours without sleeping, he’s now going for a world record with the “longest sleep stream.”
Norme ended his awake journey at around 265 hours, or more than 11 days straight, without a shuteye. He presumably wished to tackle the previous world record set by Randy Gardner in late 1963, who didn’t sleep for 264 hours and 24 minutes.
Though there are other records of people depriving themselves of sleep for longer durations, Norme said he didn’t use any stimulants as opposed to those who allegedly did and stayed awake for significantly longer. The streamer was banned on Twitch and Kick, forcing him to end the run on Rumble. He’s now back on Twitch for a “longest sleep stream” record.
The precise reasoning behind the ban is unclear, though we presume Twitch and Kick terminated his channels on self-harm grounds. Going without sleep for prolonged periods can be fatal, and Guinness World Records stopped taking in submissions for the category due to safety concerns.
Norme is now streaming on a new Twitch account, “normeisback,” and trying to tackle the “longest sleep stream” world record, which he may succeed in given how long he was awake. At the time of writing, the streamer is over four hours into the world record run, and since this sort of feat is basically non-existent, he’ll likely be the world record holder if he continues like this for another four or five hours.
His no-sleep journey was an ambitious one, with ambulances and even SWAT teams arriving at the scene. Even so, he remains some seven days short of the longest no-sleep run, which belongs to Robert McDonald, at 18 days and 21 hours, who used caffeine for sustenance.
