The next update for Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel went live on Sept. 12 around 2:30am CT. Maintenance was scheduled to begin for the patch on Sept. 11 at 11pm CT, which means Master Duel was down from then until 2:30am CT on Sept. 12.

Most notably, the Sept. 12 update will feature two new Selection Packs: Advance of Great Forces and Aim for the Stars.

Advance of Great Forces will introduce new support cards for the Ancient Gear, Lightsworn, and Genex archetypes, as well as usher in the Ragnaraika archetype. Ragnaraika, according to the description of the Selection Pack, is “an archetype that deploys Insect, Plant, and Reptile monsters, then uses them to Link Summon powerful ace Link Monsters.” It’s comparable to the Tri-Brigade archetype, and was released in the physical TCG in the Legacy of Destruction set in April 2024.

Some of the new Ancient Gear and Lightsworn support coming to Master Duel in the Advance of Great Forces Selection Pack was also included in Legacy of Destruction for the TCG. I’m personally excited about the new Lightsworn cards since it was one of my favorite archetypes from when I was younger. The first Lightsworn cards were released in 2008, so for newer Yu-Gi-Oh! players, this pack’s release in Master Duel might mark the first time they’re seeing some of these cards.

Aim for the Stars, on the other hand, looks like a pack that will feature several staple Ultra Rare (UR) cards already in the game, including Extra Deck monsters like Borrelend Dragon, Bystial Dis Pater, and Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon. Both Selection Packs should be available for purchase in the Master Duel shop as soon as you’re finished downloading the Sept. 12 update.

Two Secret Packs were introduced alongside the Sept. 12 patch as well. Adventure of Mystical Etchings features Runick and Generaider cards, while New World Replete With Joy gives players another way to get Mannadium cards.

The Sept. 12 update is also bringing three minor changes to the Master Duel Forbidden and Limited list. White Dragon Wyverburster is going from Forbidden to Limited (one copy per deck), while Bystial Druiswurm and Saryuja Skull Dread are moving from Limited to Unlimited (three copies per deck). Noticeably, Snake-Eye and Yubel—two of the best decks in Master Duel right now—weren’t hit by this ban list update.

New cosmetic items and accessories were added to Master Duel in the Sept. 12 update, too. Ancient Gear Advance and Final Gesture wallpapers are available in the shop for 250 Gems each. There’s a new duel field called Forest of the Traptrix, which costs 600 Gems. And Ragnaraika fans can grab the Ragnaraika Stag Sovereign card sleeves or the Ragnaraika the Evil Seed icon.
