You can finally recruit Alfira as a companion in Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 has introduced several companions through different playthroughs. However, one supposed companion that has eluded players since the game’s inception is Alfira—who is now recruitable but not in the way you would expect.

While Alfira may have originally been intended to be a recruitable character in Baldur’s Gate 3, the final iteration of the game does not allow you to recruit her at any point—until now. Reddit user cenalexis_01 has found a method, similar to the old way players recruited Minthara on a good playthrough, that subverts the regular recruitment process.

This method can be time-consuming and quite complicated, so stick with us on this one. There are also a few prerequisites you have to meet first.

  • For this method to work, you need to play multiplayer, ideally with multiple Tav characters, one of whom needs to play as the Dark Urge.
  • Clear Act One and see the Goblin attack on Druid Grove through to completion.
  • You must clear this entire run without long resting, so ensure you have an adequate supply of consumables ready.

Now that you’re all set, progress your story until Alfira joins your camp and play through the cutscene. Make sure you have space for one extra character in your party.

At this point, use one of the multiplayer Tav characters in your party to kill the Dark Urge party member and keep their corpse in your inventory. Now that the Dark Urge is out of the way, Alfira should survive the next few steps. Head to the Last Light Inn in Act Two, sit Alfira down on her chair and talk to her to get the quest Rescue the Tieflings, then save them from Moonrise Tower.

Get the Potent Robe reward for completing the quest, then kill Alfira and keep her corpse in your inventory, too. This is when you can start using long rest again.

Since Alfira is dead, Quil Grootslang, the Dragonborn singer, will arrive in your camp after a few long rests. Kill her and long rest a few times again until you acquire the Deathstalker Mantle, spelling the end of the long process.

You can now safely revive Alfira through Withers. She will become a permanent addition to your party from this point onward because you prevented her scripted death in the Dark Urge questline.
