Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s latest update for season six is now live, but it appears to be a broken download for many players.
Players across consoles, including PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, are encountering an error on Sept. 18 that says “one or more MW3 multiplayer DLC packs are out of date.” But when players attempt to install the packs, nothing happens.
I encountered the “install multiplayer” issue myself on PS5 and quickly found that others were having similar problems across multiple platforms. I’ve tried several times to restart the game to try and get the packs re-downloaded, but nothing is working at this time.
The error is not affecting all players, though, as several streamers have downloaded and installed the update just fine. It may not affect the PC version of the game as it appears that most complaints are coming from those on consoles.
This wouldn’t be the first time an update broke CoD. Earlier this year in a season two update, the game was inaccessible for many for several hours after the download became available. Plenty of gamers likely hope this issue isn’t as serious, but for now, many are unable to try out what season six has to offer.
The new update is set to add new weapons, the DTIR 30-06 battle rifle and Kastov LSW LMG, along with a new six-vs-six map called Drive Thru, several Shipment map variants, and the seasonal event The Haunting.
The spooky-themed season includes new operator skins such as Michael Myers from Halloween, Art the Clown from Terrifier, and more. But the scariest thing for CoD players right now is their inability to play the game, especially for PS5 players who need to re-download content packs to access the title they have been playing for nearly a year.
