Griffin’s legendary debut LCK run continued earlier today with an overwhelming victory over back-to-back league champions, KINGZONE DragonX.
Although Griffin came into week three of the Summer Split with an undefeated record, there was a caveat attached to their five consecutive LCK match wins—they hadn’t played any top teams. Without wins versus the LCK’s big players, it was difficult to determine Griffin’s true skill. Up against LCK champions KINGZONE DragonX, Griffin could finally prove that they truly deserved to be in first place.
Griffin not only proved they belong at the top of the LCK standings after today’s match, but completely decimated KINGZONE in the process.
Griffin needed only one teamfight victory in both games one and two in order to shutdown KINGZONE. Griffin’s mastery of skirmishing and teamfighting made it almost impossible for KINGZONE to come back once they were behind in gold and tempo. If KINGZONE tried to make a play, Griffin would immediately counter it and be rewarded with kills and objectives.
Griffin mid laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon handily beat KINGZONE’s Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong on both sides of the Zoe and Irelia mid lane matchup. “Zoe cannot solo kill Irelia, so I felt really comfortable,” Chovy explained during Griffin’s post match interview.
At no point did Griffin look like they weren’t in control of either match. Through their excellent teamfighting, Griffin were even able to turnaround and capitalize what looked to be the most perilous of situations. For a team comprised of rookies that entered the LCK just over two weeks ago, Griffin’s play resembled that of league veterans.
With KINGZONE now slain, Griffin will prepare for their match against KT Rolster on June 28.
