The numbers behind Teamfight Tactics‘ player base were revealed in a report by Riot Games in 2021.
The autobattler had an extraordinary launch in 2019, introducing millions of players to the genre, exploding on Twitch, and even making a name for itself in esports. The hype has since simmered down, but according to Riot, the game is still thriving.
In fact, TFT has been so successful that it increased League’s global average peak concurrent players by an astonishing 30 percent in 2019. All in all, that added up to more than 33 million players each month, with a collective 1.725 billion hours.
Set Four, Fates, recorded 2.5 billion hours played from start to finish and brought an average of 10 million players back to play each and every day. As a whole, the game has garnered more than 80 million total players since 2019.
Riot has continued to commit time and effort to TFT, regularly updating the game with new features, while developing the meta on a bi-weekly basis.
Since June 2019, TFT has emerged as the top contender in the genre, putting games like Auto Chess and Dota Underlords to shame.
