“Today is an exciting day for me and the entire team at The Gaming Stadium. We have been working hard to get this off the ground,” CEO Dan Cybak said in a statement. “Our team is made up of people who have been organizing and participating in tournaments in this city for years. We have built a group that covers all aspects of esports. This facility is truly built by gamers for gamers.”
The Gaming Stadium is expected to hold 2,150 spectators, with a gaming area stocked with 40 set-ups. There will also be a “casual area” for players to access, as well as “a full broadcast facility” and a food service area.
COO Matthew Low said The Gaming Stadium will focus on more than just major events in an effort to “cultivate the next great gamers.” That means hosting leagues for all skill levels, as well as coaching opportunities for players interested in improving at their favorite games.
Events have not yet been announced for The Gaming Stadium, but sales and marketing vice president Spiro Khouri said “some great brands” are already on-board for the stadium’s launch in 2019. More announcements are expected in the lead-up to The Gaming Stadium’s opening.
“This is going to change the landscape of esports in Vancouver,” Cybak said.
