In Apex Legends, mobility is the key to getting the edge in a fight. Besides individual legend abilities that provide mobility, there are a wide variety of mechanics that provide additional movement potential, like climbing walls and sliding. One of these mechanics is the wall jump, which can be used to quickly maneuver toward or away from opponents.

Wall jumps are exactly what they sound like: they allow legends to run off of walls and use them as jump leverage, granting a burst of speed and enabling quick direction changes. They can be performed with any legend and are not considered cheating or misuse of game mechanics. You can get the drop on an enemy or climb up the first floor of a building without using stairs if you need a fast height advantage.

Here’s how to perform a wall jump in Apex.

Wall jump instructions

Wall jumping isn’t hard to pull off, but it does take some practice and fairly precise timing. It can be performed with both a controller and a mouse and keyboard, but many say it’s easiest with the latter.

To perform the jump, you’ll need to find a flat area of wall. Start by running at the wall at about a 45-degree angle. Right before you get to it, drop into a slide and jump toward the wall. You’ll need to shift your camera angle so that you’re looking directly at the wall right as you run up against it.

Immediately after hitting the wall, jump again. If done correctly, this second jump should launch you away from the wall, giving you a burst of speed as you fly off. In their video tutorial, YouTuber Fingle recommends binding jump to your mouse’s scroll wheel if you’re on PC: doing so increases your consistency with the technique.

Contrary to how it may appear, the wall jump is easy to learn. You may even have already performed it without noticing it before. Once you’ve picked it up, the hardest thing will be to remember to use it in fights. The only way to ensure you use it in fights is to practice it until it becomes a reflex. Wall jumping might not be quite as fun as wall-running in Titanfall, but it’s still a move that every player worth their salt should know.
