Interview with Royalty Climax

Last night I had the opportunity to talk to a member of the HCS team Royalty eSports, Gage “Climax” Mallery (@RoyaltyClimax). I got the chance to ask him a few questions about his new team and what the future holds for them.

To get some background information, what was your first Halo and when did you start playing competitively?

I played every Halo, not competitively until Halo 3.

As of a few days ago you’ve left Averse to form the current Royalty eSports team, what sparked this change?

Our Averse squad was extremely talented and did well, we just didn’t enjoy playing together. There was always a tense feeling, so I left to team with an ex-teammate and good friend Timesknight, then this Royalty squad kinda just pieced together which I’m extremely excited for.

With not much time left in the season do you expect to make it into the legendary brackets during these last two cups?

We aren’t 100% sure we will be able to play both cups but yes we always expect to make it to legendary bracket.

In that case do you intend to attend HCS Indianapolis?

We are 100% attending.

At this point in the season it would be extremely difficult to make the season finals, was the intent to build this team for the future and Halo 5?

This team was formed because we enjoy playing together and I feel we can and will surprise people at Indy with a good placing.

So do you intend to continue competing into Halo 5?

I’m going to if I feel like its a good game that I enjoy.

Assuming you played in the beta, is there anything you’ve seen that you dislike about the game?

I’m more of a traditional Halo guy, I prefer it without sprint and abilities.

I’m really interested in how “semi-pro” players feel about the current HCS format, is there anything you’d wish they change?

They should cut down on online cups and add another LAN tourney, also LAN tourneys should be worth many more points than cups. Difference between LAN and online is night and day.

Thank you for taking the time to do this interview, any plugs or shout outs you’d like to give?

Shout out our team’s org, Royalty, also my teammates Timesknight, Common, and Ali.

You can catch Climax and the rest of Royalty in this week’s online cup and at HCS Indianapolis on June 26th.
