The North American side was left two players short of a complete squad just days ago when carry Artour “Arteezy” Babaev and offlaner Saahil “Universe” Arora left to join Team Secret.

The move, which comes late in the transfer window that began after the Shanghai Major concluded on Mar. 7, caused a chain reaction of players and teams scrambling to find complete rosters. With Arteezy and Universe incoming Secret dropped Rasmus “Misery” Filipsen and Aliwi “w33haa” Omar.

The resulting void in the EG roster was quickly filled by Aui and Bulba, despite Aui having been dropped from the team immediately after their victory at The International 5 (TI5) last year, in order to make way for Arteezy. Bulba is also rejoining the team after coaching them through their TI5 victory, and playing on the team for many years during their TI2 campaign. Aui will take the carry position while Bulba fills the offlane slot.

Both players leave team Digital Chaos, which was set up in the aftermath of the TI5 shuffle primarily by Aui and fellow North American free agents. Those open slots have now been filled by Misery and w33haa, thus completing this season’s musical chairs roster event.

This roster transfer window is particularly important as, unlike the two windows so far this year, it will not unlock until after two Major events: The Spring Major, and The International. The Majors system, and its accompanying roster lock period, was intended to bring stability to a competitive scene Valve saw as fractured and disparate. This window has so far been the most chaotic, causing several players to react angrily towards Valve’s rules.
