As the Maw and Disorder mini-set enters the fray, the statistics have greatly shifted—and even though the state of the game continues to evolve, there are clear outliers to keep in mind, be they in your own hand or in your opponents’. Here are the most impactful Legendary cards in the current metagame.
Sire Denathrius
To no one’s surprise, the late-game damage bomb continues to be one of the most important cards in the metagame, ending games by itself even without the Brann+Ka’elthas combo that’s now been nerfed into the ground.
The Rat King
A cornerstone of Beast Hunter, a deck that revolves around cheating out and reviving massive high-value Beasts, this card serves as a source of infinite value and important tempo bonuses when you’re trying to fight for the board. It is the cheapest among the deck’s heavy-hitters and the one you can reliably summon with Pet Collector.
Firemancer Flurgl
Whether you’re going all-in with an aggressive Murloc Shaman build, or just a sprinkling of the good stuff in a Control deck, this card alongside Toxfin enables cheap board clears. With various Murloc-specific card draw tools available to Shaman players, you can easily sort out this play in a pinch.
Brann Bronzebeard
Of all the original members of the League of Explorers, Brann stood the test of time the best. The ability continues to be valuable and the three-mana price to trigger it is really not all that much. From Curse Warlock to the now-nerfed Sire Denathrius combo package to basically anything else, Brann is a Swiss Army knife of a card that can be useful in almost every strategy.
Magister Dawngrasp
The Mage hero card offers a singular finisher strategy to any of the slower decks of the class, and it’s no surprise that it still has a home in Big Spell Mage even in the post-miniset metagame. The scalability of the hero power means that it offers certainty to otherwise defensive builds, and the raw stats it provides in terms of mana when the spells are recast makes it more than worth your while.
