Last week Team SoloMid revealed that it was considering bench one of its starting players due to performance issues. And now the team has acquired the contract of the potential replacement.
SoloMid brought in Yuri “KEITHMCBRIEF” Jew, on loan from Team Liquid Academy, to place pressure on struggling AD carry Jason “Wildturtle” Tran. Jew’s in-house tryout is now complete. Team Liquid and Team SoloMid have officially completed his transfer, with SoloMid acquiring Jew’s contract from Liquid for a price, removing the final obstacle preventing him from appearing in a match with the squad.
In some ways that may be a surprise, considering Tran competed for Team SoloMid during the last weekend of League Championship Series (LCS) matches. He put together a 13/2/6 KDA line in two matches, including a 6/1/4 mark against bitter rival Counter Logic Gaming.
But this contract acquisition may be a precursor to a lineup change. All players competing in the LCS must be signed to the team they play for, meaning that Jew was ineligible to compete for Team SoloMid last weekend. That is no longer the case, should the team deem it necessary to make that change, or to now give Jew a trial in the LCS setting.
Tran may have put together a pair of decent games this weekend, but that isn’t the only area Tran needs to improve. The team wants to see progress in his work ethic and ability to improve his game, and now he’ll have some extra motivation to do so in a more permanent and immediate fashion. The last obstacle towards starting Jew in a game is now gone.
