One of the Challenger scene’s best marksmen is finally touching down in the U.S. to play with his team.
Renegades AD carry Mohamed “Jebus” Tohki is set to arrive in California on June 26 at 2pm PT, Renegades representatives tell the Daily Dot. Tohki has been one of the most anticipated players in the recent off-season roster shuffle. He joined the team, then known as Misfits, on May 7, but his move to the squad—and the U.S. in particular—hasn’t gone smoothly.
Tohki, a Denmark resident, was denied a visitor’s visa to the U.S. That forced him to apply for a P-1A Internationally Recognized Athlete visa on May 20, a process that takes significantly longer. In his absence, the team has subbed in a combination of former Team 8 marksman Ainslie “maplestreet” Wyllie and current Team 8 bot laner Zachary “Nien” Malhas.
Throughout the off-season, Tohki’s name appeared multiple times in association with different teams. Most notably, however, was Gambit Gaming, where he trialed alongside support Edward “GoSu Pepper” Abgaryan. Shortly after the trials, Tohki decided to join Renegades instead, while Gambit acquired Konstantinos “FORG1VEN” Tzortziou of SK Gaming.
After the Daily Dot reported Tohki’s signing on May 7, Gamers2 owner Carlos “Ocelote” Rodriguez took to Twitter to claim that Tohki was still under contract with his organization. After several back and forths between Rodriguez and Renegades owner Chris Badawi, Gamers2 issued a formal statement saying it would not prevent Tohki from pursuing his career.
Renegades has been in the headlines a lot recently. The team rebranded on June 19, acquiring top Australian Counter-Strike squad Vox Eminor and adding Christopher “MonteCristo” Mykles as new co-owner. Less than a week later, on June 24, Riot Games banned owner Chris Badawi from participating as a recognized team member in the League Championship Series for one year for alleged tampering. Tohki’s first matches with the squad will be against Winterfox on June 30 and July 1. Only the latter game will be broadcast.
