Today we saw what may be the two most remarkable League of Legends plays in a losing game ever in a pro match.
With their backs against the wall, Team SoloMid desperately held onto their nexus in Sunday’s match versus Team Liquid against all odds—literally. Super minions poured into their base from all three lanes. Team Liquid held Baron buff. They had Aspect of the Dragon, a massive bonus to their damage. The game was, essentially, over.
But then Jason “WildTurtle” Tran happened.
Team Liquid got a little antsy in trying to end the match, and Tran, the marksman player for Team SoloMid, punished them with a pentakill.
Tran makes expert use of Jinx’s passive ability, Get Excited, which gives her a massive speed boost every time she scores a kill. Team Liquid tried to escape the carnage, but Jinx and her sadistic machine gun are having none of it.
Of course, even with the entire Liquid team dead for 50 seconds, SoloMid could hardly leave their base, with minions streaming in from every corner. Luckily, they had Tran on the job.
Of course, all of Tran’s heroics were not enough. When Team SoloMid finally got brave enough to leave the base, with a 50-second man advantage, Team Liquid simply backdoored their nexus.
They probably should have just let Tran stay behind. The one-man wrecking crew extended the match into the longest of the LCS season, thanks to pulling off the biggest of LCS big plays.
