In the last expansion, Kobolds and Catacombs, each class got its own Legendary weapon. But so far, no weapons had been revealed as a part of The Witchwood—until today, when Taomei showed off a new Warrior weapon.

Woodcutter’s Axe is a two-mana card with two attack and two durability. It has a Deathrattle effect that will give a random friendly Rush minion +2/+1. This weapon could take the slot of Fiery War Axe since that card got nerfed—it used to cost two mana, but it’s been changed to three. The weapon was an effective way to clear early minions with its three attack. Although Woodcutter’s Axe doesn’t have as much attack, it does cost two mana and has a positive Deathrattle.

Warrior, alongside Hunter, is a class that will be receiving a lot of Rush cards in the upcoming expansion, and Woodcutter’s Axe would fit well into a deck that is based around Rush. Since your Rush minions are typically trading with your opponent’s minions, they’ll typically be lacking some health, so the Deathrattle on Woodcutter’s Axe would help get that health up a bit. You could also time the death of Woodcutter’s Axe and buff a Rush minion to help it trade more efficiently into an opposing minion with high health.

This card seems like a solid addition to Warrior’s arsenal, and a Warrior-type Rush deck is beginning to take shape.

You can preorder 50 packs right now and receive an additional 20 packs with a unique card back all for $49.99. The Witchwood is set to be released sometime in April.
