With TwitchCon a little over a month away, Twitch has unveiled updates and improvements to event security and safety.
“You are the most important thing about TwitchCon,” said Twitch in a new blog post today. “And while your safety has always been our top priority, this year, we’re enhancing our dedicated security and screening measures. We are working closely with San Jose’s local law enforcement, convention staff, and additional security services.”
Future gaming events like TwitchCon and others will undoubtedly be under heavy scrutiny after last month’s tragic shooting at a Madden NFL 19 tournament where three lives were lost.
Changes to this year’s event security include bag search and security screenings at all designated entrance points for every attendee. Attendees will be allowed to bring one bag (12″ x 15″ x 6″), but no backpacks are permitted. Every bag will be searched.
No weapons will be allowed in the venue, as clearly stated in the blog post. Staff and security will have the final say when it comes to all matters related to safety at the event.
Additionally, all attendees must wear their badge within all areas of the event and it must be visible at all times. Attendees must carry a valid form of photo ID or passport as well.
TwitchCon takes place from Oct. 26 to 28 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California.
