Super Smash Bros. Melee legend Adam “Armada” Lindgren will retire from professional singles matches.
Armada announced his retirement in a video posted to YouTube today. The Swedish player is a Peach and Fox main who’s widely considered the best Peach player of all time. Fans know him as one of the “Five Gods” of Melee: Armada, Juan “Hungrybox” Debiedma, Joseph “Mango” Marquez, Jason “Mew2King” Zimmerman, and Kevin “PPMD” Nanney. The 25-year-old player has been competing in Smash Bros. since 2007.

Armada said he’ll continue to play in doubles Melee matches, but is quitting singles. “It almost feels to the point where I feel physically sick when I enter singles, where I really don’t want to do it,” Armada said. “I’ve invested so much of my life into this game.”
The Peach main said he still enjoys playing team matches. “In teams, I have things I want to achieve,” Armada said. “We have so much more to do, not only in terms of winning, but in how far teams can be pushed.”
Armada said he’s also interested in passing on his Melee knowledge through commentary in official matches. Likewise, he’ll continue to stream on Twitch and will continue to attend events.
“I put everything I could into Melee to reach my goal but to do that for more than half my life is a long commitment,” Armada wrote on Twitter. “I might be the person on the planet with the most hours in Melee or at the very least, close to it. I hope you all can understand. I will see you all at events.”
