Destiny 2 servers require some maintenance when patches release, but the servers usually stay down for a longer period of time when it comes to larger releases like seasons and expansions. Season 22 will also have a maintenance window, though it won’t be as long as the full day it took to dive into Lightfall.
Though some titles have maintenance during off-peak hours, Destiny 2 updates roll out at 5pm UTC (11am CT without Daylight Savings Time). The patch cycle continues to be at 5pm UTC, however, so fans can expect changes to their schedule with daylight savings.
This schedule means maintenance will usually take place shortly before 11am CT. In the case of a hotfix, Destiny 2 servers usually go down 15 minutes before reset (at 10:45am CT) and are back by the time the patch hits.
With the release of seasons, however, maintenance usually kicks off at least one hour before patch time. That downtime can be even bigger with major expansions and knock the game out for around 24 hours, in the case of Lightfall—beating The Witch Queen’s 14-hour downtime.
There isn’t much information about the yet-unnamed season 22 so far, but as usual, we do know there will be a maintenance window, as is the custom for season releases. Here’s how long you can expect Destiny 2 to be offline—and when it comes back.

Is Destiny 2 undergoing maintenance for season 22?
As usual, Destiny 2‘s season 22 will see a few hours of downtime before landing on the servers. Bungie took the servers offline for maintenance at 9:15am CT on Aug. 22, and players are expected to return at reset. The wait for this one will be shorter than usual, though: The Destiny 2 showcase kicks off at 11am CT, giving players enough content to kill for an hour, plus however long it takes to get past the server queue.
To see if Destiny 2 is undergoing maintenance and for a full maintenance schedule, keep your eyes on the BungieHelp Twitter page, which outlines maintenance schedules ahead of time. Maintenance commonly takes place 15 minutes before a new patch hits, though that interval is significantly bigger with major releases and occasional larger-scale patches.
When does Destiny 2 come back online?
Barring any issues, Destiny 2’s season 22 should become available at 12pm CT. Most players may not get to dive into the game at 12pm on the dot, though: They’ll still have to download Update 7.2.0.1 for the new season and make their way past the dreaded server queue. Bungie delaying the update due to technical issues is also potentially on the table, especially since it happened with the release of Season of the Deep.
When the update does release and you can get into the game, brace for the “One moment please…” message that’s typical of major releases, which indicates there are too many players attempting to log in at the same time.
