It’s that time of the week, kids. Fortnite’s servers have just gone down while Epic Games updates the game with new content. Here’s a look at what’s changing.
The star of the 5.2 update is the Double Barrel Shotgun. This new shotty is available in Epic and Legendary variants and can be found as floor loot, in chests, supply drops, and vending machines.
The Double Barrel is described as delivering high burst damage at very close range, but falls off heavily at distance. It fires 10 pellets like other shotguns, but it has a larger spread, lower critical damage, and a two second cooldown when swapping weapons. The Legendary variant of the gun can reach up to 150 base damage per shot at extreme close range.
Update 5.2 also adds a new limited time mode called Steady Storm. This mode has a constantly moving storm that closes in over the island over the course of 15 minutes, with no safe zone circles, so you’ll have to predict where it will go next. The storm does 10 damage per second, so you better keep moving.
Other minor changes in the update include a vending machine rebalance, and a change to remote explosive drop count and max stack size. Overall, you should see less common vending machines and more of every other variant, and they will all cost a bit less to buy from. For remote explosives, the drop count has been reduced from four to three, and the max stack size reduced from 10 to six.
In a slightly smaller but welcomed change, you can now view your challenges in-game. Daily and suggested challenges will also now appear on the in-game map screen.
You can check out the full patch notes on Epic’s website, or check them out in-game for yourself once the servers go live later this morning.
