RIP, Chappadoodle.

Today’s Fortnite v5.1 update added the usual weekly dose of new content into the game. There was a new gun, new skins, and other adjustments for players to get their teeth into.

But something stranger appeared as well. One player discovered a new addition to the game’s map that pays tribute to a recent viral clip that drove fans crazy last week.

The clip, which has been viewed nearly four million times on Twitter alone, sees Australian content creator Mr Muselk come across a fellow player stranded off a cliff. The player, who we later learn is called Chappadoodle, is trapped on a low ledge off the edge of the map. Muselk assumes he must have got trapped down there with no materials, so attempts to build down to him. It doesn’t go great.

“Maybe I am going to heaven after all, I hope god’s watching” Mr Muselk said, attempting to initiate a rescue.

The ledge is outside of the area players can build in. So Mr Muselk comes up with a new plan: Drive a kart off the edge and let Chappadoodle bounce off the roof onto a ramp and climb up.

Of course things don’t go to plan. Muselk loses control of the kart and plows into Chappadoodle, sending him flying to a watery death.

Reddit user StoreBrandEnigma ventured to the site of the botched rescue after today’s update dropped, and it turns out there’s now a gravestone on the area. It’s a fitting tribute to Chappadoodle. Fortnite clips can go insanely viral, but this could be one of the most famous deaths in the game’s history so far.

There’s also some new tires on the cliff side, so others can avoid the same fate as Chappadoodle and bounce up to a ramp without the Jackass-ian stunt.

Let’s hope Chappadoodle and Muselk get to visit the scene of the crime soon. What could be more awesome than a selfie with your own tombstone?
