Overwatch 2 has only been out since Oct. 4, but its development team at Blizzard Entertainment has wasted no time in delivering plenty of new heroes and new experiences to players.
When the game launched, it featured three new characters: Sojourn, Junker Queen, and Kiriko, who were classified as a damage hero, tank hero, and support hero, respectively. This allowed players to see what the future of Overwatch looked like for every type of character.
Now that the game has moved on from its initial launch period, the focus has shifted to the next heroes coming down the pipeline. Blizzard has committed to one new hero every other season with the exception of the upcoming second season, which will feature a new hero before season three introduces a new map. The development team revealed early on that the hero arriving in season two would be a tank, and fans have been waiting with bated breath to see who will join the roster next.
So, who’s the next tank coming to Overwatch 2?
Overwatch 2’s next tank
Season two’s featured hero, who is also Overwatch 2’s next tank, is none other than Ramattra, the omnic leader of the Null Sector group. Ramattra was previously showcased in a PvE mode during the Archives event in the first Overwatch. In the scene, he discussed a Talon-Null Sector collaboration with existing hero Doomfist. His name and position were not revealed at the time, but many players correctly guessed that he was the leader of Null Sector. (The community then proceeded to call him “Null Hector.”)
Ramattra is a tank who can shift between two forms to defend his team and lead them into the fray. Omnic form is a more defensive mode that allows him to deal poke damage, deploy a barrier, and defend his team from attacks. Nemesis form transforms him into a huge, aggressive target who can bust into the enemy team, inspiring his allies to follow him and mount an assault. While his full ability list has not yet been revealed, he was built from the ground up with five-vs-five in mind, making him a true contender in Overwatch 2’s refreshed battlefield.
As explained in his origin story video, Ramattra was originally intended to be a “war machine.” Despite this, he gave up a life of fighting and joined the Shambali peace organization under the banner of Mondatta. He and Zenyatta, a fellow Shambali member, developed a close friendship, and at first it seemed like the path to peace would be a serene one.
That was not to be. Ramattra began to grow frustrated with the slow and deliberate actions of the Shambali, particularly when omnics were still being targeted by humans around the world. He wanted to make a bigger impact, and his methods became more practical than thoughtful. As it stands now, Ramattra is the leader of the Null Sector group, which aims to protect omnics by any means necessary. His philosophy is just as grand as his actions.
Ramattra will be available in Overwatch 2 when season two launches on Dec. 6.
