Overwatch 2 players have sometimes put up with hours and hours of waiting to get into a server, to get booted out without reason. Once they’ve made it onto the servers and are about to choose their favorite hero, sometimes their hero is locked without reason.

The issue seems to keep resurfacing, with fans begging to find out how to fix the problem and get cracking into their games.

Even a week after the game’s release, the issue keeps rearing its head.

The launch has been haunted by DDoS attacks, despite this being a thorn in Blizzard’s side, they shared it didn’t directly cause any of the main issues.

Jodie, one of the community managers at Blizzard, has explained the causes of these issues in a community blog post on the Overwatch forums. The crux of the issue was heroes who were supposed to be unlocked essentially weren’t, leaving players to get back into the character grind.

“These cases are almost certainly related to our new First Time User Experience (FTUE) flow incorrectly being applied to existing players,” the Overwatch dev explained.

The community manager continued, sharing ideas of how to bypass any issues involving locked heroes, saying “we have seen relogging into the game resolve this issue in most cases.”

Blizzard has highlighted the importance of sharing any issues with the developers, saying “If you’re still experiencing this issue after taking these steps, please open a support ticket 187, that data is very helpful for our team.”

Players have found the key to fixing the issue, with a large percentage of players finding success with the method. One fix is to switch to a different region.

After you’ve done this, go to the menu. Then feel free to switch back to your previous region.

Soon, these issues will be fixed and players will have their heroes again.

Update Oct. 10, 11:04pm CT: Added more details regarding further OW2 fixes.
