Seeing Steam Connection Timeout error? Here’s what to do

Some players are having issues.

The campaign rollout for Call of Duty’s latest title, Modern Warfare 2, has caused Steam and Battle.net servers to face unprecedented issues.

Following the drop of early access to the campaign earlier today, both hosting services are facing issues with loading the title. Some players are struggling to open Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 despite having pre-downloaded the game on their devices.

There have been over a hundred reports of issues with Steam over the past hour, according to DownDetector. While Battle.net is facing log-in problems, some players who bought the game have access to the campaign.

The servers will likely be back up within the hour, however, with some players being able to download the game once more to load up the campaign.

Unfortunately, there’s not much players can do until the servers are back up.

Typically, the servers face issues at the start of the release of games because of the unprecedented and unnatural demand for a download. This can cause issues such as long loading times or players being unable to download certain titles upon release.

The 30GB game is a sizable title and will take a while to download, but players got access to pre-download the title before the campaign release today. Even so, some players faced issues with a second download prior to the launch.

Other players on consoles are experiencing some issues with Xbox players being told to wait for access to the game. But this can be resolved by restarting the game until it lets you in, eventually, players have found.
