The LCK free agency period is just around the corner, and among the player contracts about to expire is none other than SK Telecom T1 mid laner Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok.
On Nov. 20, 9am KST, or Nov. 19, 6pm CT, Faker’s current contract with SKT will come to an end, with the mid laner entering free agency. Arguably the biggest free agent set to hit the market, Faker has yet to reveal his intentions during this offseason.
Earlier today, SKT announced the departure of seven of its players, including notable names like AD carry Bae “Bang” Jun-sik and support Lee “Wolf” Jae-wan. While Faker’s name wasn’t on the list of departures, SKT has yet to announce its re-signing of the famed mid laner.
For many fans, SKT has become synonymous with Faker. Making his professional debut on SKT in 2013, Faker has spent his over five-year long competitive career playing for the telecom giant. During his time on SKT, Faker has led the organization to a myriad of international and domestic victories, including three World Championship titles.
This year saw a decline in performance for SKT, however. For the first time in the organization’s history, SKT failed to make a domestic playoff, ending the 2018 LCK Summer Split in seventh place—the team’s worst placing to-date. In the midst of SKT’s Summer Split struggles, Faker spent a lot of time on the team’s bench, with mid laner Choi “Pirean” Jun-sik playing in his stead.
In addition to Faker, many other notable LCK players will also enter free agency in the next 24 hours, including KT Rolster jungler Go “Score” Dong-bin and KINGZONE DragonX mid laner Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong.
