Dark and Darker is currently split into three separate queues for solo and grouped players. At most, three players can queue in a single group for the Trio matchmaking, where they will face three additional teams of three. However, solo and duo players can also queue for trios, leading to a mixed bag of parties that won’t exceed 12 players total in a single match.

As Dark and Darker has introduced a new split between the queues for free and paying players, all three players will require Legendary Status to unlock the High-Roller Trios queue.

Unfortunately, as things stand, so long as anyone in the party is a Squire account (free-to-play), the party will not be able to access High-Roller matches, which are usually more dangerous and thus more rewarding. Ironmace has been expanding its approach to free-to-play since Dark and Darker‘s Steam re-release, so that may change at some point down the line. Normal queue, too, functions differently and if one player has over 25 gear score, the whole party will be placed in a more challenging match even if the other two are qualified for the “beginners” queue.
