Starfield is edging ever closer to release on Aug. 31 for those who secured early access, though many still wonder whether Starfield has crossplay and cross-progression.

Gamers nowadays consider crossplay and cross-progression nearly essential features. The former allows people on Xbox to play with PC players, for example, while the latter lets people carry on their saved game from one platform to another.

Here’s everything you need to know about crossplay and cross-progression in Starfield, and all things multiplayer-related.

Does Starfield have cross-progression?

Yes, Starfield does have cross-progression, but there’s a catch.

Starfield is a “Play Anywhere” title, which means that players are only required to buy one digital version to play across Xbox Series X|S or PC. Everything you made will carry over thanks to cross-progression, including story progression and achievements. The game is also available for Xbox Game Pass subscribers.

If you, however, happen to buy a copy of Starfield on Steam, you won’t be able to carry over your progress to Xbox Series X|S. This is because Steam doesn’t support Starfield‘s “Play Anywhere” feature.

How to enable cross-progression in Starfield

To activate cross-progression in Starfield, all you need to do is use the same Microsoft account on PC and Xbox.

Starfield doesn’t have crossplay between PC and Xbox Series X|S, nor any form of co-op because it is a single-player experience like many of Bethesda’s games—and a lot of people in the community think it should stay this way.

But given that Bethesda has a history of allowing the community mod its games, it’s possible that a modder adds at least a co-op mode for Starfield in the future. For now, all that you can really do is make use of Starfield‘s several NPC companions.
