The first day of DreamLeague Season 8, the second Major event in the Dota 2 Pro Circuit, concluded earlier today.
Two teams, namely the Malaysia-based Fnatic and the Peruvian squad Infamous, have been eliminated from the tournament without having put up much of a fight. For the former, they were unable to survive the event in spite of the significant improvement in their results as of late, brought about by new recruit Abed “Abed” Yusop and the return of Adam Shah as coach.
Infamous could not catch a single break, losing all four of their games with their opponents hardly breaking a sweat. Although this result was more-or-less expected, this event is something that the Peruvians will want to quickly move on from.
Out of the six remaining teams, reigning International champions Team Liquid and ESL One Hamburg silver medalists Team Secret find themselves sitting pretty in the upper bracket finals. This will be a grudge match for both teams, as Secret actually eliminated Liquid from Hamburg 2-1.
Both teams’ runs at DreamLeague so far indicate that this matchup will be white hot in intensity and excitement. For Secret, both Yazied “YapzOr” Jaradat and Marcus “Ace” Hoelgaard have been spectacular so far, carrying the load on their backs with superb play and decision making.
Not to be outdone, the TI7 champions have shown their absolute best as well, breezing through Fnatic and taking care of Hamburg champions Virtus Pro. They could prove to be more than a handful for Secret tomorrow, especially if they stay just as fired up as they were today.
Down below, we’ve got Newbee against Natus Vincere, and VP vs. EG—all fighting for tournament life. Although they dropped their best-of-three against Secret, Newbee should have what it takes to send Na’Vi packing from the lower bracket.
As for EG, they will have to step it up big time compared to their first series of the tournament; the demolishing they experienced also at the hands of Secret will not cut it against a team like VP.
