The release of Genshin Impact‘s next region, Fontaine, is just around the corner and it’ll bring a lot to discover.
Countless leaks hinted at Fontaine as early as last year, revealing the region would revolve around the Hydro element and feature underwater exploration of some sort.
While Sumeru pushed the boundaries of Genshin in many ways, we believe Fontaine will do the same at a higher level this year.
The developer has remained quite discreet on the update so far, keeping players in the dark except for one massive trailer that introduced a dozen new characters we are going to meet in the rich continent.
The region will be inspired by the continent of Europe, as shown by the main city’s architecture from the trailer and the first characters from Fontaine players encountered in events. Here is when the Hydro region will release in Genshin.
Fontaine’s expected release date in Genshin Impact
The last update from the Sumeru cycle, Patch 3.8, was released on July 5, introducing the last limited area in the region. Now, all eyes are turned to the upcoming Fontaine era and 4.x updates.

Although the developer has yet to reveal a precise release date for Patch 4.0, which will introduce the map of Fontaine, the countdown on Patch 3.8’s banner hints at an official introduction around Aug. 16.
Meanwhile, an Announcement Program Livestream to give details on the major update will be held on Aug. 4, at 6:30am CT. If you want to get prepared for Fontaine’s release already, we highly recommend making storage space on your chosen device.
