Some professional Dota 2 players are trying to give back to the community that watches them play day in and day out.
Yesterday, all eight teams participating in Midas Mode, the Dota 2 casting studio and talent agency’s alternative mode tournament, pledged to donate all $60,000 from the event’s prize pool to charitable organizations of their choice. This was announced through a Reddit post, submitted by an account representing the teams themselves.
“We believe that giving back to our communities is a responsibility we all share in life, and we are inspired by other gaming communities who have long been supporting charity and uplifting others,” the post reads.
Some examples of the organizations the teams have chosen include UNICEF, Make-A-Wish International, ADHD Solutions, and Center for Family Life.
Prior to the announcement, neither MoonduckTV nor the teams themselves utilized Midas Mode for a good cause. This decision, however, was made by the teams in cooperation with Jake “SirActionSlacks” Kanner (the brains behind Midas Mode) and the rest of MoonduckTV, according to the Reddit post.
“We want to thank Slacks and MoonduckTV for being so willing and excited to help us hijack their tournament and its meaning for a bunch of good causes,” the post reads.
For the uninitiated, Midas Mode is a special side tournament that introduces a currency system called Moonbucks, which teams will utilize throughout the duration of the event. Moonbucks are spent on things such as drafting and banning heroes, pausing the game, and even choosing between playing as the Radiant or the Dire.
