During Electronic Arts’ (EA) recent earnings call, the company’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, talked about plans to expand Apex Legends to new platforms, including mobile.

Wilson said that Apex Legends is a major long-term franchise for the company. The team behind the battle royale game has been expanding since the game’s launch to give fans regular content and updates.

He said that with Apex Legends now passing 70 million players, the company is committed to bringing the game to “mobile, new platforms and new geographies.” Wilson also said that EA is launching an Apex competitive gaming program, the details for which will be revealed soon.

EA’s CFO and COO Blake Jorgensen further elaborated and gave fans a rough release date for the mobile version of the game. The company will be releasing the game on new platforms, geographies, and on mobile in the 2021 fiscal year, he said. The 2021 fiscal year begins in Oct. 1, 2020, so fans will likely see a release after this.

It’s not surprising to see EA investing in bringing the game to the mobile platform after the immense success of games like PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty: Mobile. But it’s unclear if the mobile version of Apex will support cross-platform play or if it’ll release as a separate mobile game.

For now, though, Apex is available for Microsoft Windows, PS4, and Xbox One.
