Gen.G has been busy acquiring new teams in the first half of 2019.
About a month after signing a professional Call of Duty team, Gen.G has revealed its Apex Legends team—and Overwatch League fans should recognize at least two of the players. Gen.G’s Apex lineup includes Chris “Grimreality” Schaefer, Ted “silkthread” Wang, and Tim “Dummy” Olson.
“We think Apex Legends is one of the most promising titles for esports, and we’re excited to be able to find such a group of talented players that are committed to building a great team,” Gen.G COO Arnold Hur said. “As the scene is still developing, we really debated about when we wanted to enter the scene, but when we met this group, we knew this was the right team for us as we loved that they were veterans of the fps scene, displayed both great mechanics and strategy, and had a professional team-first attitude.”
Grimreality, who mains Bangalore in Apex, is a former Overwatch League DPS player for the Los Angeles Valiant. Silkthread, a Wraith main, also competed in the Overwatch League as a DPS player with the Valiant and Los Angeles Gladiators. He retired from professional Overwatch on Dec. 1, 2018.
Dummy, on the other hand, is a former competitive Team Fortress 2 player. He spent time with Team Liquid and NRG, and he mains Lifeline in Apex.
“The team already has a ton of ideas that they want to put in play,” said Gen.G general manager Nathan Stanz. “We’re excited to get a chance to work with them and provide support so that together we can build a great team for years to come. Respawn/EA has made an incredible title that has lightning-in-a-bottle potential for esports, and we’re proud we have such a great team to represent us as we continue to grow globally.”
Gen.G’s new team will make its debut for the organization in this weekend’s ESL 3on3 Open Cup.
