Apex Legends is still kicking in 2024, long after it initially rocketed to popularity in 2019 on the back of its exciting battle royale gameplay and colorful cast of characters, each with unique abilities.

Unlike most battle royales, Apex asks players to choose a legend to go into battle with. It’s similar to games like Overwatch with each character having their own abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. There’s a starting set of free characters players can choose from, while many others can be purchased either with easy-to-earn in-game currency or your hard-earned cash.

Depending on your playstyle or setup, there’s surely a character that works for you. Take a look at them all below to see which stands out the most.

All characters and abilities in Apex Legends season 22

Bloodhound

  • Passive: Tracker – See tracks left behind by foes. White Ravens can appear to Bloodhound and will lead them to the nearest enemy when interacted with.
  • Tactical: Eye of the Allfather – Briefly reveal hidden enemies, traps, and clues throughout structures near you.
  • Ultimate: Beast of the Hunter – Enhances senses, allowing you to move faster.
  • Class Perk: (Recon) Can use survey beacons to reveal all enemies on the map. Gains Threat Vision when aiming down sights at enemies within LOS, highlighting them in red.

  • Passive: Gun Shield – Aiming down sights deploys a gun shield that blocks incoming enemy fire.
  • Tactical: Dome of Protection – Throw down a dome shield that blocks incoming attacks for 12 seconds.
  • Ultimate: Defensive Bombardment – Call in a mortar strike on a marker position.
  • Class Perk: (Support) Can access secret compartment in blue loot bins for more healing items, and the entire team can craft teammate respawn banners at replicators even if they have timed out.

Lifeline

  • Passive: Combat Medic – Revive knocked down teammates with D.O.C., allowing you to keep fighting while reviving.
  • Tactical: D.O.C. Heal Drone – Call down a drone that automatically heals nearby teammates over time.
  • Ultimate: Care Package – Call in a drop pod full of high-quality items.
  • Class Perk: (Support) Can access secret compartment in blue loot bins for more healing items, and the entire team can craft teammate respawn banners at replicators even if they have timed out.

Wraith

  • Passive: Voices from the Void – A voice will warn you when an enemy sights you.
  • Tactical: Into the Void – Warp and re-position yourself without worrying about taking damage.
  • Ultimate: Dimensional Rift – Create a portal for 45 seconds between two locations. Usable by the entire team.
  • Class Perk: (Skirmisher) Can reveal location and highest-rarity contents of incoming care packages.

Pathfinder

  • Passive: Insider Knowledge – Revealing a care package using Skirmisher perk decreases Zipline Gun cooldown by 10 seconds.
  • Tactical: Grappling Hook – Grapple that can get you out of places quickly.
  • Ultimate: Zipline Gun – Create a zipline that anyone can use.
  • Class Perk: (Skirmisher) Can reveal the location and highest-rarity contents of incoming care packages. Revealing care packages reduces ultimate cooldown.

Bangalore

  • Passive: Double Time – Taking fire while sprinting makes you move faster for a brief period of time.
  • Tactical: Smoke Launcher – Fire a high-velocity smoke canister from a launcher that creates a smoke wall.
  • Ultimate: Rolling Thunder – Call in an artillery strike that slowly moves across the landscape.
  • Class Perk: (Assault) Can carry more ammo per inventory slot and can access secret compartment of red loot bins for more weapon attachments.

Caustic

  • Passive: Nox Vision – You can see enemies through gas.
  • Tactical: Nox Gas Trap – You can drop deadly gas canisters that explode when shot or triggered by enemies.
  • Ultimate: Nox Gas Grenade – Spawns a large area of deadly gas.
  • Class Perk: (Controller) Can use Ring Consoles to find the location of the next circle. Gains an extra 25 shields within the Ring at White, Blue, and Purple Evo levels.

Mirage

  • Passive: Now You See Me… – Automatically drop a decoy and cloak for five seconds when knocked down. While reviving a teammate or using a respawn beacon, Mirage and his teammate turn invisible for a short period of time.
  • Tactical: Psyche Out – Send out a decoy that runs across the map, confusing enemies.
  • Ultimate: Life of the Party – Deploy a team of decoys while you cloak to distract enemies.
  • Class Perk: (Support) Can access secret compartment in blue loot bins for more healing items, and the entire team can craft teammate respawn banners at replicators even if they have timed out.

Octane

  • Passive: Swift Mend – While not taking damage, Octane restores health over time.
  • Tactical: Stim – Moves faster for six seconds at the cost of some health.
  • Ultimate: Launch Pad – Deployable Jump Pad that catapults users through the air for a double jump.
  • Class Perk: (Skirmisher) Can reveal location and highest-rarity contents of incoming care packages.

Wattson

  • Passive: Spark of Genius – Ultimate Accelerants fully charge Wattson’s ultimate, and Wattson can stack two Accelerants per inventory slot. Standing near Interception Pylons boosts Wattson’s tactical recharge rate.
  • Tactical: Perimeter Security – Create electrified fences by connecting nodes. Fences damage and slow enemies.
  • Ultimate: Interception Pylon – Place an electrified pylon that destroys incoming ordnance and repairs damaged shields. (Max: 1)
  • Class Perk: (Controller) Can use Ring Consoles to find the location of the next circle. Gains an extra 25 shields within the Ring at White, Blue, and Purple Evo levels.

Crypto

  • Passive: Neurolink – Crypto and his teammates see what his Surveillance Drone detects up to a 30m distance.
  • Tactical: Surveillance Drone – Deploy an aerial camera drone. The drone scans enemies, collect teammate respawn banners and can activate respawn beacons. 40-second cooldown if destroyed.
  • Ultimate: Drone EMP – Charge up an EMP from your drone. The blast deals 50 shield damage, slows players, and destroys traps.
  • Class Perk: (Recon) Can use survey beacons to reveal all enemies on the map. Gains Threat Vision when aiming down sights at enemies within LOS, highlighting them in red.

Revenant

  • Passive: Assassin’s Instinct – Highlight nearby visible enemies who are low on health. You crouch walk faster and have improved wall climbing.
  • Tactical: Shadow Pounce – Unleash a powerful pounce forwards. Hold to charge for farther distances.
  • Ultimate: Forged Shadows – Forge a shroud of hardened shadows around you that blocks direct damage and regenerates after breaking. The shadows have 75 health. Your shadows and tactical are refreshed on knockdowns.
  • Class Perk: (Skirmisher) Can reveal the location and highest-rarity contents of incoming care packages.

Loba

  • Passive: Eye for Quality – Nearby epic and legendary loot can be seen through walls. The range is the same as Black Market Boutique.
  • Tactical: Burglar’s Best Friend – Teleport to hard-to-reach places or escape trouble quickly by throwing your jump drive bracelet.
  • Ultimate: Black Market Boutique – Place a nearby portable device that allows you to teleport nearby loot to your inventory. Each friendly enemy Legend can take up to two items and unlimited ammo.
  • Class Perk: (Support) Can access secret compartment in blue loot bins for more healing items, and the entire team can craft teammate respawn banners at replicators even if they have timed out.

Rampart

  • Passive: Modded Loader – Increased magazine capacity and faster reloads when using LMGs and the Minigun.
  • Tactical: Amped Cover – Build a crouch-cover wall, which deploys a full-cover amped wall that blocks incoming shots and amps outgoing shots.
  • Ultimate: Minigun “Sheila” – Place a mounted machine gun that anyone can use, or deploy a mobile version that only Rampart can use. High ammo capacity, long reload time.
  • Class Perk: (Controller) Can use Ring Consoles to find the location of the next circle. Gains an extra 25 shields within the Ring at White, Blue, and Purple Evo levels.

Horizon

  • Passive: Spacewalk – Increase air control and reduce fall impacts with Horizon’s custom spacesuit.
  • Tactical: Gravity Lift – Reverses the flow of gravity, lifting players upwards and boosting them outwards when they exit.
  • Ultimate: Black Hole – Deploy N.E.W.T. to create a micro black hole that pulls players in towards it, and hits them with a graviton blast at the end.
  • Class Perk: (Skirmisher) Can reveal location and highest-rarity contents of incoming care packages.

Fuse

  • Passive: Grenadier – Stack an extra grenade per inventory slot. Fire grenades farther, faster, and more accurately.
  • Tactical: Knuckle Cluster – Launch a cluster bomb that continuously expels airburst explosives on impact.
  • Ultimate: The Motherlode – Launch a bombardment that encircles a target area in a wall of flame. Targets within the circle are scanned for Fuse and his squad.
  • Class Perk: (Assault) Can carry more ammo per inventory slot and can access secret compartment of red loot bins for more weapon attachments.

Valkyrie

  • Passive: VTOL Jets – Use jetpack to fly. Fuel is limited but refills over time.
  • Tactical: Missile Swarm – Fire a swarm of mini rockets that damage and disorient the enemy.
  • Ultimate: Skyward Dive – Launch into the air and sky dive. Allies can hook into take-off systems to join you. Enemies are scanned while flying from drop ship, redeploy balloons or the Skyward Dive ultimate.
  • Class Perk: (Skirmisher) Can reveal location and highest-rarity contents of incoming care packages.

Seer

  • Passive: Heart Seeker – Hear and visualize the heartbeats of nearby enemies when aiming down sights.
  • Tactical: Focus of Attention – Seer summons his micro-drones to emit a delayed blast that goes through walls interrupting and revealing enemies.
  • Ultimate: Exhibit – Create a sphere of micro-drones that reveal the location of enemies moving quickly or firing their weapons within.
  • Class Perk: (Recon) Can use survey beacons to reveal all enemies on the map. Gains Threat Vision when aiming down sights at enemies within LOS, highlighting them in red.

Ash

  • Passive: Marked for Death – Ash’s map shows the location of recent deathboxes and marks surviving attackers when interacting with a death box.
  • Tactical: Arc Snare – Throw a spinning snare that damages and tethers the first enemy who gets too close.
  • Ultimate: Phase Breach – Tear open a one-way portal to a targeted location.

Mad Maggie

  • Passive: Warlord’s Ire – Temporarily highlight enemies you’ve damaged, and move faster with a shotgun.
  • Tactical: Riot Drill – Fire a drill that burns enemies through obstacles.
  • Ultimate: Wrecking Ball – Throw a ball that releases speed-boosting pads and detonates near enemies. Stuns enemies and destroys doors and shields.
  • Class Perk: (Assault) Can carry more ammo per inventory slot and can access secret compartment of red loot bins for more weapon attachments.

Newcastle

  • Passive: Retrieve the Wounded – Drag downed allies as you revive and protect them with your Revive Shield.
  • Tactical: Mobile Shield – Throw a controllable drone that creates a moving energy shield.
  • Ultimate: Castle Wall – Leap to an ally or target area and slam down, creating a fortified stronghold.
  • Class Perk: (Support) Can access secret compartment in blue loot bins for more healing items, and the entire team can craft teammate respawn banners at replicators even if they have timed out.

Vantage

  • Passive: Spotter’s Lens – Aim down sights with any mid to long-range scope or while unarmed to scout enemy teams and what shields they have. A bullet drop indicator also shows where your shots will land.
  • Tactical: Echo Relocation – Tell Vantage’s companion Echo to fly to a nearby location, then launch toward him. You must maintain line of sight to make the jump.
  • Ultimate: Sniper’s Mark – Pull out a custom sniper rifle and use it to mark nearby enemies. Marked enemies take additional damage from Vantage and her team.
  • Class Perk: (Recon) Can use survey beacons to reveal all enemies on the map. Gains Threat Vision when aiming down sights at enemies within LOS, highlighting them in red.

Catalyst

  • Passive: Barricade Reinforce doors and create new ones in destroyed doorways using ferrofluid. Reinforced doors require double the amount of melee strikes to destroy.
  • Tactical: Piercing Spikes Create a patch of ferrofluid that extends into spikes when enemies pass nearby. Catalyst is immune to enemy spikes.
  • Ultimate: Dark Veil Create an enormous wall of ferrofluid. Enemies can walk through it, but it slows their movement speed and they can’t see through it. Dark Veil also blocks scans.
  • Class Perk: (Controller) Can use Ring Consoles to find the location of the next circle. Gains an extra 25 shields within the Ring at White, Blue, and Purple Evo levels.

Ballistic

  • Passive: Sling – Store a third weapon in the sling. Access via inventory or Character Utility Action Button. The sling weapon cannot take attachments.
  • Tactical: Whistler – Shoots a projectile that heats up an enemy’s gun as they shoot. Overheating causes damage. Hold the Tactical to lock on.
  • Ultimate: Tempest – Nearby teammates get faster reloads, faster-armed move speed, and Infinite Ammo. The sling weapon will be upgraded to gold.
  • Class Perk: (Assault) Can carry more ammo per inventory slot and can access the secret compartment of red loot bins for more weapon attachments.

Conduit

  • Passive: Savior’s Speed – Gain a burst of speed when running towards a teammate out of tactical range.
  • Tactical: Radiant Transfer – Send a surge of energy to a teammate, generating temporary shields for them and Conduit when in danger.
  • Ultimate: Energy Barricade – Deploy an array of shield-jamming devices that damage and slow enemies.

Alter

  • Passive: Gift From The Rift- Can remotely interact with a Deathbox and claim one item (cannot be armor).
  • Tactical: Void Passage– Creates a portal passageway through a surface.
  • Ultimate: Void Nexus– Create a regroup point that all allies can remotely interact with to open a phase tunnel back to that location.
  • Class Perk: (Skirmisher) Can reveal the location and highest-rarity contents of any incoming care packages.
