Shields are often thought of as a premiere resource in Apex Legends. Leveling your Evo Shield to level four—or looting a high-level shield off another player—is one of the best ways to ensure late-game survivability. Shield Cells and Shield Batteries are always at a premium since they take less time to use than Syringes and Med Kits, respectively. Upgrading and restoring your shield has always been a big part of Apex’s match progression.
That doesn’t mean that health is any less important. Even if you restore your shield during a fight, an enemy can easily take you out if your health is low. Health takes longer to restore and can’t be increased or upgraded during a match, so it’s just as important to keep an eye on it as it is to be mindful of your shields. Knowing how much health and shields you have at any given time is the key to knowing how likely you are to survive in a fight.
With that being said, just how much health do you have in Apex Legends?
How much health do you have in Apex Legends?
In any given match of Apex, all players have 100 points of health. This total can’t be increased in any way, meaning you can’t evo your way to more health, for example.
All Apex Legends healing items
Most Legends don’t regenerate health automatically; Octane is the notable exception thanks to his Swift Mend passive. For everyone else—and even Octane, when he gets into a bad fight—Syringes, Med Kits, and Phoenix Kits are the easiest way to restore health. There’s also Lifeline’s D.O.C. Drone tactical, which restores a limited amount of health to nearby players. Here’s how much healing each item actually does:
- Syringe — Heals 25 HP
- Med Kit — Heals 100 HP
- Shield Cell — Heals 25 Shield HP
- Shield Battery — 100 Shield HP
- Phoenix Kit — Heals 100 HP & 100 Shield HP
As far as EVO Shields go, there are six different types that offer varying amounts of additional health points. Each type of EVO Shield can be found and equipped, but they can also evolve into stronger EVO Shields depending on how much damage you inflict to other players during a match.
- Starting Shield — 0 HP
- Evolves after inflicting 100 damage
- White EVO Shield — 50 HP
- Evolves after inflicting 150 damage
- Blue EVO Shield — 75 HP
- Evolves after inflicting 300 damage
- Purple EVO Shield — 100 HP
- Evolves after inflicting 750 damage
- Red EVO Shield — 125 HP
- Does not evolve
The sixth type of EVO Shield, is especially rare. This Gold EVO Shield gives 100 HP, but also doubles the healing properties of Syringes and Shield Cells.
Bleeding out in Apex Legends
Eventually, you’ll go down in Apex Legends and if you have teammates that are alive, you’ll be sent to your knees to slowly crawl around. In order to increase your survivability while downed, you’ll need to use one of three types of Knockout Shield.
- White Knockout Shield — 200 HP
- Blue Knockout Shield — 450 HP
- Purple Knockout Shield — 750 HP
You’ll start each match with a White Knockout Shield, but, if you’re lucky, you’ll manage to loot a Blue or Purple one before you ever go down in combat.
Dying in Apex Legends
Unfortunately, you might bleed out or be shot to ribbons when you’re in a downed state from time to time. If you’ve got some helpful teammates, however, you could possibly reenter the fight via Respawn Beacons.
First, you or any other fallen teammates need to have your living teammates collect your Banner from your box that drops when you perish. With Banner in hand, any living teammate can interact with one of the Respawn Beacons scattered across the map and presto! Fallen teammates come back for another fight.
Of course, using Respawn Beacons can be risky as they take a long time to activate and leave you open to attack. Respawning your fallen friends is good, but it should be done carefully.
Additional Health details in Apex Legends
While most types of damage, including gunfire, deplete your shield first before depleting your health, there are a few hazards that skip right to health. Octane’s Stim tactical depletes his health without affecting his shields, though Swift Mend helps with that. The gas from Caustic’s tactical and ultimate ignore shields and deal damage to health; know that if your health bar depletes all the way, you’ll be knocked down, even if you still had shields left.
Finally, the Ring around the map deals damage directly to health. This damage amount increases in each subsequent Ring, with the final Ring dealing so much damage that it’s impossible to walk outside of it without taking substantial damage or being knocked down. If you plan on traveling outside the Ring for any length of time, it’s best to have plenty of Syringes and Med Kits at the ready.
