Wyll’s father, Duke Ravengard, is an essential figure in Baldur’s Gate 3 whose fate directly affects the ending you receive. Keeping him alive will likely be a crucial part of your playthrough. However, his fate is also tied to Wyll’s. Can you save Wyll’s father and also save Wyll?
What happens if you save Wyll in BG3?
To save Wyll, you must break Wyll’s pact with the devil, Mizora. Wyll is free of his servitude but eventually loses his Warlock powers. You don’t need to worry; Wyll’s Eldritch Blast and other abilities will still be available for use before the game ends, and he will remain a useful party member.
The primary negative consequence of rejecting Mizora’s new contract will be you don’t get the information you need to find Duke Ravenguard. Unless you actively seek out Wyll’s father’s location from other sources or happen to stumble upon his location, then Wyll’s father will die if you save Wyll. Wyll will regret not re-signing his Pact with Mizora if his father is left to die.
Saving Wyll means condemning Wyll’s father to death and losing valuable assistance in the final battle. You can attempt to save him in the Iron Throne. But it will be more challenging.
You can save Wyll’s father after breaking Mizora’s pact. But the devil will make sure you have a difficult time rescuing him.
What happens if you save Wyll’s father in BG3?
If you re-sign Wyll’s pact with Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3, you are given the location of Wyll’s father, and Mizora will aid you in the final confrontation of BG3 against the Absolute. Wyll’s father is a massive asset to the Baldur’s Gate and players, giving an exclusive quest chain that can take you underground.
Doing so, however, will mean Wyll’s soul is entirely forgone and will be trapped in Avernus after his death. But he’s happy because, despite their differences, you’ll save his father. That’s only if everything goes to plan.
You can also sign the pact but fail to rescue Wyll’s father, which leads to his death. This is, obviously, the worst-case scenario because you’ve not only condemned Wyll’s soul to an eternity in hell, but his father will also be dead because you weren’t able to rescue him.
If you don’t have any affection for Wyll or want the easier route, you should get Wyll to re-sign his pact with Mizora and save his father.
Should you break Wyll’s Pact with Mizora in BG3?
The best choice for Wyll in BG3 is to break the pact with Mizora but still find Wyll’s father in the Iron Throne. Though this is the hardest option on the table, it provides the best ending for Wyll as a companion and still gives players the exclusive quest from Duke Wyll’s father.
Wyll was one of my personal favorite companions in BG3, and I wanted him to have the best ending possible, so I braved through this difficult quest and managed to come out the other side with both Wyll’s father and his soul intact.
No matter your choice, you will still have Wyll during the final portions of the game. Of course, if you don’t like the Warlock as a companion, you can always condemn him to an eternity of torment.
Can you save Wyll’s father and free Wyll from his pact in BG3?
As with many major decisions in Baldur’s Gate 3, there is a way to help all parties, though it will require some extra effort. Before or after you break Wyll’s pact with Mizora, you can find Wyll’s father being held captive in the Iron Throne.
Thankfully, this location is not too far away. The Iron Throne is in the Flymm Cargo basement, just south of the Blushing Mermaid Tavern. Given that you’re attempting to free Mizora’s only leverage over Wyll, the demon will try to thwart your plans.
Once inside the Iron Throne, you only have six turns to save Wyll’s father. You should bring your most mobile characters on this mission. Misty Step and Dimension Door are crucial spells to escaping here alive.
Once you reach the sunken city beneath the basement, Gortash will try to flood and drown your party. You will only have eight turns to save Wyll’s father, so ensure you save before attempting this rescue. If you manage to free Wyll’s father, the Emperor will severe the Absolute’s hold over the character, and he and Wyll can return to camp victorious.
Mizora is a demon who forges ironclad contracts. Even if you break Wyll’s pact and rescue the Duke, she will eventually come for Wyll’s father.
It should also be noted that if you save the Duke after breaking Wyll’s contract, you won’t be able to romance Mizora. So, if you want a spicy night with Mizora, you must choose the first option: Condemn Wyll’s soul. This way, you’ll be given the information to save Wyll’s father, and after two Long Rests, you should get the dialogue prompt for a romantic night with Mizora.
Saving Wyll or his father can be a tough choice for many players, and your choice will come down to whether you want additional help for your fight against the Absolute and if you want to romance Mizora, or if you want to rescue Wyll from a demon.
