Not as tough as it looks

If you have ventured into the Mountain Pass region of Baldur’s Gate 3, you might have stumbled into the Rosymorn Monastery. It’s here where you can take on a quest called the Blood of Lathander and reach the Githankyi Creche, but it’s also where the Guardian of Faith lives.

Where to find the Guardian of Faith in BG3

The Guardian of Faith conjuration can be found in the Rosymorn Monastery, standing behind a locked door, roughly at the coordinates X: 102 and Y: 46. And it’s pretty close to the entrance to the Monastery.

From the Rosymorn Monastry main entrance, climb down the rocks on the Southmost cliff, jump across the cliff, and travel further until you find some Knotted Roots. Climb the roots.

Use the rocks to your left to climb up and reach a broken set of stairs. At the top of the stairs, you will encounter the locked door.

After lockpicking the door, take care of the furniture blocking your way and behold the presence of the Guardian.

However, to enter the room, you must lockpick the Enchanted Door at X:95 and Y:47. To do that, you need to roll a 15 or higher, and to make sure you can successfully get through the door, use Astarion, another Rogue, or a Bard, as they have some of the highest Dexterity levels.

You’ll know you’re in the right place when you see a glowing guardian with a gold circle surrounding it. This is the same Guardian you must defeat to pick up a weapon placed on a platform in the stained glass window room for the Blood of Lathander quest.

If you are trying to complete that quest and keep dying to the Guardian of Faith, don’t worry; we’ve covered every tip and trick you need to get past it.

How to kill the Guardian of Faith in BG3

To kill the Guardian of Faith in BG3, you must use ranged attacks, remain outside the Guardian’s golden circle, and allow it to destroy itself because every time it attacks, it damages itself.

But before you jump into combat, you should know a few things about the Guardian of Faith and its abilities.

The Guardian of Faith is a level seven conjuration and is quite durable as it has 60 health, but there are a few stats and abilities you must be aware of, including:

  • Resistances: The Guardian of Faith has no resistances, meaning if your abilities have a bonus Damage over Time (DoT) aspect to them or deal additional elemental damage, the Guardian will be affected
  • Ability: Guardian of Faith: This is the Guardian and the golden ring, and if you step inside, you’ll get attacked
    • The Guardian deals 20 Radiant Damage to enemies within range.
    • When the Guardian attacks, it will also take 20 damage.
  • Ability: Permanently Armed: Basically, he’s got a weapon.
  • Ability: Retaliation: It deals counter damage when you attack it.

Now that you know how much health the Guardian has, its attacks and features, and its damage, you can start combat.

How to start combat with the Guardian of Faith in BG3

You’ll notice that the Guardian will not attack you on sight when you enter through the front door. So, when you’re ready to start combat with the Guardian of Faith, you should use a ranged attack on it.

Or if you’ve separated your tank and are feeling brave, you can have them venture into the golden circle or pick up the Ceremonial Battleaxe off the ground. However, if you’re confident in your tank and combat ability, starting the combat sequence using a ranged attack is best.

From here, you can focus on your Guardian of Faith game plan because your party will suffer if you don’t know the best way to kill it.

Tip:

Some great early-game ranged attacks include Fire Bolt, Magic Missile, Bone Chill, Witch Bolt, Scorching Ray, and Ray of Sickness. You can also use the ranged attacks from your bow or crossbow.

Strategies and tips to beat the Guardian of Faith in BG3

Although there are various strategies you can use to beat the Guardian of Faith in BG3, these are the ones I recommend:

  1. Only attack the Guardian of Faith with ranged attacks. While you can defeat it with melee attacks, the Guardian will only attack characters within the gold circle on the ground. As long as you stay outside the circle and hit it with spells, arrows, or bombs, you can keep your entire party intact.
  1. The main attack you want to watch out if you go inside the circle for is Strike of the Guardian, which can damage your characters. So, if you’re inside the ring, ensure your companions use high-damage melee attacks.
  2. You also don’t want to move much around the Guardian, as it hits you after a miss and has attacks of opportunity.
  3. Use your health potions. Use a health potion if you notice one of your companion’s health bars is low. You can always find or make more.
Tip:

To get the best Advantage for your ranged attacks, jump to areas with higher ground around the room, like on top of furniture or the windowsill.

Using health potions when necessary means that you will win in the long run because the Guardian of Faith will take itself out simply by attacking. So, you need to ensure you’re the sturdier of the two.

As long as you stay outside the circle and attack the Guardian of Faith with ranged attacks, you can easily beat the Guardian of Faith in BG3 and get the Ceremonial Battleaxe to complete the Rosymorn Monastery puzzle.
