Dice rolling is a critical part of Baldur’s Gate 3, so it’s understandable that you may want to customize your dice to reflect yourself better. Or you may simply want to apply that cool Deluxe Digital or Collector’s edition skin you’ve got.
Fortunately, changing your dice skin is pretty straightforward. You just need to follow a couple of simple steps.
How to change your die design in Baldur’s Gate 3
To change your die design in Baldur’s Gate 3, you need to follow these four easy steps:
- Wait for a dice roll to be triggered. Dice rolls are regularly triggered throughout Baldur’s Gate 3, so you shouldn’t wait long for one to appear.
- When the screen prompting you to roll the dice appears, don’t roll the dice. Instead, first look to the bottom left-hand corner, and you should see a small purple hexagon.
- Click on the hexagon. This brings up a pop-up of die designs. All your available designs should be there to choose from, including the Deluxe Digital Edition and Collector’s Edition skins.
- Simply select the skin you want to use, and that will apply it.
You can then roll the dice normally and see your new design in action. It’s that simple.
Can you get more dice skins in BG3?
To my great disappointment, BG3 does not come with additional die skins. The designs available will depend on which edition of the game you picked up. But, fellow players, don’t lose hope yet, as additional die skins may very well come in future updates.
Larian Studios is well-known for adding additional content to their games, as they did with Divinity: Original Sin 2. Many gift bag updates in that game came from player suggestions and the modding community. With enough feedback, they will likely add some more for players to acquire. And if not, well, there’s always mods!
All dice skins in BG3
As of now, there are four native dice skins available in BG3. Here’s a list of all of them and how to acquire them:
- Scuffed Metal – the default dice skin
- Behir Blue – Link your Larian account to whatever platform you own the game on
- Illithid Purple – available from the Collector’s Edition of BG3
- Dragonflame Red – available from the Deluxe Digital Edition of BG3
But if you don’t like any of these native skins, there are also mods you can try, including:
- Dice Set Skin Expansion—This set has 14 stand-alone Baldur’s Gate 3 dice skins
- Galaxy Dice Set—This is a single BG3 dice skin with a purple galaxy pattern
- Baldur’s Gate 3 Dice Skin Set—In this set, you get 18 BG3 dice skin variations
- Astral Sea BG3 Dice Skins—Similar to the galaxy set, this is a single BG3 dice skin, but each side has slightly different colors.
- The Golden Death BG3 Dice Skin—A gold and black dice skin set with a skull.
When I realized that there was no native green dice skin in BG3, I was a little disappointed because it’s the best color. I’m 100 percent biased, I know. And while I don’t usually use mods, just because I’m worried I’ll break the game, I had to download these mods for BG3.
With over 60,000 downloads, the Dice Set Skin Expansion set is by far the most popular dice skin mod for BG3, and it’s easy to see why because it does offer various skin colors, and they’re stunning. So, if you change your mind, you have many others to choose from. I enjoy using the Astral Sea set because it’s beautiful and aesthetically pleasing, and when I’m feeling a little grungy or hoping to kill my enemy, I always opt for the Golden Death skin.
If you aren’t great at using mods or have never used them before, you’ll find the download instructions for each of these BG3 dice skin sets on their download pages, and they’re super easy to follow.
So, even if you didn’t purchase the Collector’s Edition or Deluxe Digital Editions, there are ways you can get stunning dice skins relatively easily in BG3.
