More Hotfixes than Patches!

Between Patches, Larian Studios introduced several hotfixes to Baldur’s Gate 3 to squash some high-priority bugs. These hotfixes are released more regularly than Patches and are significantly smaller.

The first Patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 was released on Aug. 25 2023 and provided over 1,000 fixes, including improved romance scenes for the game’s short races—ensuring they won’t need to bring a ladder on their dates,

Patch #2, along with the Playstation launch, provided a happy ending for one of the game’s most popular characters, Karlach, and introduced Withers’ Wardrobe of Wayward Friends, which allowed you to dismiss co-op party members from your campaign.

Patch #3 was released on Sept. 22, bringing the full release of the game to Mac and allowing you to change your character’s appearance in-game via the Magic Mirror.

Hotfix #8 released on Oct. 3, included much-requested features such as shaving His Majesty following an outcry from upset players.

Hotfix #9 arrived to fix several bugs and crashes. So, while the hotfixes aren’t enormous, they’re definitely a welcome addition whenever they roll around.

Patch #4 was released on Nov. 2, where the devs announced that it also provided over 1000 fixes for the game. It introduced settings for color-blind players as well as visual customization for the hirelings upon recruitment. There were many more Accessibility options that were added and can be found in the Accessibility tab within BG3.

Hotfix #10 released on Nov. 9 fixing mostly visual issues and bugs. It tweaked matters happening with the companions such as Astarion and Shadowheart as well.

Hotfix #11 released on Nov. 17 where more visual issues were fixed along with some romance bugs found between Gale’s romance scene and Astarion’s kissing scenes.

Patch #5 was released on Nov. 30 and was the last Patch for BG3 as of today. It added playable epilogues that take place six months after the events of BG3 and allow for more story telling. It also added new cinematics that reflect the arc of your story where you’ll be able to reunite with companions and think upon your old adventures. New modes were added as well, Honour Mode (the most challenging mode that levels up the intensity of Tactician) and Custom Mode (a mode where players are able to pick and choose what adventure they’d like to experience).

Hotfix #12 was released on Dec. 2 and was a small hotfix that addressed conversation issues with certain NPCs.

Hotfix #13 was released on Dec. 8 aimed to fix crashes, bugs and glitches including an exploit with Faerûn traders that allowed players to buy out a trader with only one gold and a container.

Hotfix #14 was released on Dec. 15 and brought Patch #5 to Mac systems and fixed Xbox system crashes as well. It also addressed plenty of crashes, bugs and blockers.

Hotfix #15 was released on Dec. 21 and fixed many crashes and gameplay issues including the stretching of NPC’s faces and replacing holes in their faces where their eyes should be! There was also a Japanese version for PC on Steam and PS5 limited to Japan only.

All upcoming hotfixes and patches confirmed

The next patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 has not yet been confirmed but, if the same sort of timeline is taken to what has been seen in the previous patches, we can estimate that Patch #6 will be released in early-to-mid February.

What will the next Patch #6 bring? Possibly improved party and inventory management, additional content for companion quests that need a bit more fleshing out, or any quality-of-life updates that Larian can think of, really. Bugs and game issues, blockers and tweaks will continue to be made within hotfixes as Larian is really persistent on fixing the game.

As BG3 was released on Xbox Series X|S on Dec. 7, 2023, more players have been able to join and create many stories within the game. One could only imagine the game coming to Nintendo Switch or future Switch platforms as they continue to expand their presence on all consoles.
