Baldur’s Gate 3 has been out for more than a year, but apparently even its massive player base hasn’t found all the secrets, with fans only this week uncovering a Lae’zel ending so rare no one has unlocked in while playing.
The ending, which is impossible to see in a normal BG3 playthrough, was first discovered by YouTuber SlimX digging through the RPG’s hefty code. In this ending, Lae’zel remains herself and doesn’t become a Mind Flayer. However, because she didn’t kill Orpheus, Vlaakith refuses to let her ascended and then dooms her to be hunted for eternity; in response to this cruel damning, Lae’zel ends her own life.
The YouTuber manipulated the coding further to show what the ending would be like if Vlaakith didn’t care that Lae’zel was a Mind Flayer. In this ending, Lae’zel gets to go to Tu’narath and ascends. This one’s a tad creepy as the Queen looks like she’s about to chop off Lae’zel’s head in the end scene, but the doors closes. So, who knows what happened to Mind Flayer Lae’zel? You can watch all three end-scenes in the video below.
These alternate futures for the BG3 character—which still remain unfindable in-game, as far as Dot Esports has seen—are reminiscent of an ending Larian recently revealed only 34 players had unlocked. In that uber-rare Lae’zel finale, you play as Lae’ze until Vlaakith rejects her ascension because she’s a Mind Flayer. Then, you can choose the option for Lae’zel to end her own life. It runs quite close today’s new discovery.
While it’s unlikely we can’t experience these endings without changing the coding and mucking around in the backend, plenty of players are now ready to start their next playthroughs to try and get that seemingly impossible Mind-Flayer Lae’zel suicide ending.
All these endings are so interesting, and without BG3 players diving into the code we’d never have seen them. Who knows what other mysteries are still hidden.
