Xu Dog is a genuine Soulslike NPC, with a quest sprawling almost the entire second chapter of Black Myth: Wukong.

First Location: Sandgate Village

To find him, you must first visit Sandgate Village, go left down the small canyon, and then right. Xu Dog will be rummaging around a stone. After you defeat Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw and talk to Xu Dog again, he will grant you a gift and move to another location.

Second Location: Cellar beneath Crouching Tiger Temple

To discover Xu Dog’s second location, you must reach the Crouching Tiger Temple and fight the Tiger Vanguard boss. Then, the altar at the top of the arena can be interacted with, though it will require two items: Sterness of Stone (dropped by the Stone Vanguard near Rockrest Flat) and Keeness of Tiger, dropped by the Tiger Vanguard himself.

Once you have both items, interact with the altar, and a stone tiger’s head will emerge to drain the blood from the arena. Progress through the place, and you will reach the cellar, where Xu Dog and his trusty furnace await.

Final Location: Ruyi Scroll

Xu Dog will once again make a move once you reach chapter two and unlock the Ruyi Scroll area. This is done through an NPC quest made available after you descend from Turtle Island onto the beach of the New West and then head straight left (though you shouldn’t do it first, as there’s lots to see in the area itself). The trusty medicine smith permanently stays at the place and even rewards you with free medicine if you visit him periodically, though you can still find him in the Cellar area, too.
