Not long after announcing the first esports scholarships in Australia, Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is now offering Ph.D. scholarships of more than $27,500+ AUD ($19,600+ USD).
The scholarships are being offered in conjunction with the QUT Faculty of Health, and is specifically looking for candidates interested in “improving performance in eSports players.”
Michael Trotter, QUT’s esports Coordinator, said in an official Facebook post that the Ph.D. will involve “investigating a range of behaviors and interventions associated with lifestyle factors such as diet, sleep, and exercise.” Research in this area “can only improve the wellbeing of our esports athletes and potentially give even more longevity to their careers,” Trotter said.
In November, the university announced $10,000 esports scholarships for five students competing on the university’s team, the QUT Tigers.
The Ph.D. is open to anyone who has already completed a postgraduate qualification in areas such as nutrition and dietetics, sports and exercise Sciences, and “human movements.” Eligible countries include the United Kingdom, European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Russian Federation, Canada and the United States of America. If you fall outside of these categories, however, QUT still encourages you to apply.
Applications close at 5:00pm AEST on Friday, Feb. 15. If you would like more information about the scholarships, or would like to apply you can read more via the Seek website or contact QUT directly.
