Founded in 2014, G2 has established itself as one of the most prominent esports organizations in the world, fielding teams in League of Legends, VALORANT, Counter-Strike 2, and more. The org’s League team, in particular, has 11 domestic titles.

The German esports organization briefly entered the CoD scene in 2018 for Black Ops 4 but quickly disbanded after a year. Just days away from the 2024 CDL season kicking off, G2 is back to add some more silverware to the organization’s cabinet.

Version1 announce G2 merger

On Dec. 5, Version1 COO Brett Diamond announced the news of the org’s merger with G2. “G2 will receive operating rights to the Minnesota RØKKR Call of Duty League team.” Diamond said. “Going forward the Version1 brand will no longer be fielding competitive teams or active content creation.”

Version1 previously had teams in Rocket League and VALORANT. As for CoD, the RØKKR already announced its new roster, featuring Accuracy, Lynz, Owakening, and Vivid.

Minnesota will play its first CDL match since the merger on Saturday, Dec. 9, against the Vegas Legion. The CDL has not yet provided any information on where 2024 matches can be watched, but we will share an update when we learn more.
