The world of competitive Call of Duty is forever changed. In fact, all of Call of Duty is forever changed. News came out today that Nadeshot, the face of Optic Gaming, has been released from the team.
This tragic news was released just days after the 2015 Call of Duty Championship, where the top seeded Optic Gaming under-performed and placed 7th overall. They lost to Denial in the first round of the playoff bracket, a team they had no trouble with just weeks ago at the North American Regional Finals. They then beat a few scrub teams before getting demolished by Faze Red.
Team owner Hector “Hecz” Rodriguez spoke bluntly in the following statement, “It’s time that we let him [Nadeshot] go. This has been a long time coming, really. Yes, I know he has been the face of this franchise and without him, who knows where we would be today. But the truth is, we don’t need him anymore. Any new player that joins Optic is an instant star, Nade is replaceable! The second I saw him pull out an HBR in the match against Faze this weekend, I know exactly what I was going to say to him. I told him, ‘Bro, you’re like a brother to me, but you’re done. You can stay in the Optic house still, but you’re not on the team anymore. You can go join Mboze or something.’ And that was that!”
Hecz didn’t seem too fazed by the criticism either, “Will we lose Greenwall fans? I don’t know, did we lose Greenwall fans when we sucked it up this weekend in Los Angeles? You tell me.”
When asked about who would be replacing Nadeshot, Hecz seemed to know exactly who he was looking for, “Ok listen to this: Nade is kind of a shrimpy guy. I think one thing that Optic Gaming needs is a muscle-head. Doug “Censor” Martin. The dude is freakin’ ripped! I mean, even his name is so much cooler. ‘ Censor’. I’ll say it all night. ‘Censor’.”
Responding to the news, Nadeshot’s longtime duo Scumpi said, “I had a say in it too. I told Hecz that I’m done backpacking. The camping trip is over.”
It’s not clear yet what other Call of Duty teams are looking to pick up Nadeshot. Usually, a high profile guy like him would be snapped up in a heartbeat, but team owners are saying things like, “We sign Call of Duty players, not YouTubers.”
In other news, Rice Gum will be making his debut as a Call of Duty caster. He will be joining Mr.X, Puckett, and Benson in New York to cast Pro League matches and the eSports Report.
“The eSports Report is the most popular stream during the Pro League matches, and Rice Gum is the most popular one afterwards. It makes perfect sense. The guy has a lot of experience in front of the camera and does a great job talking to teenage girls,” said Benson on the matter.
“Ever since we lost Fwiz to YouTube, we lost a bit of handsome and blonde and replaced it with average and redhead. I think we need to spice things up a bit,” Puckett said.
