Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered stomped into the dirt with negative Steam reviews after Activision kills H2M

The community sentiment is less than stellar.

It didn’t take long for the CoD community to offer its honest opinion on Activision’s abrupt decision to kill the H2M mod, a project aimed at porting MW2’s multiplayer into the remastered version of its predecessor with fully remade maps and plenty of custom ones from the original’s iconic campaign.

Only a week after becoming one of the top-selling games globally, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is now getting nuked by negative reviews. The game’s Steam store page has seen better days, as 95 percent of the recently entered reviews are negative, labeling it as “Overwhelmingly Negative” in that department.

The review-bombing campaign came only days after Activision killed off H2M, and it has been so potent that even the overall reviews have gone down to a meager 52 percent, which Valve’s storefront considers to be “Mixed.”

Players weren’t only aggravated by the fact that H2M died less than 24 hours before its supposed launch time. The reactions were further amplified by Activision making the decision so soon after the Modern Warfare Remastered sale had ended—a sale that saw the game jump into the top 10 best-selling games globally, per PC Gamer. While undoubtedly fueled by the prospects of H2M, the sale had a massive role to play here, and some of the negative reviews believe Activision purposefully waited for the opportune moment to issue the cease and desist against the mod’s makers.

Cease and desist letters have been used against modders in the past, and Activision has been quite aggressive in using them. While it isn’t surprising that a big-name publisher would prevent any community competition, it still leaves a sour taste in the mouths of many, as the reviews and the overall community reactions clearly show.
